My backyard.

My first request!  I hope I'm able to do it justice.

So I have a backyard.  It's partially fenced in, because if it were fully fenced in, it'd be far too convenient.  Also, I started painting it before winter got here, decided I didn't like the color, and stopped.  Now it looks like the home of a hobo who still dreams of the time he worked in the circus.

Yeah.  This is...something.

Yeah.  This is...something.

One "odd" feature of my house is the number of lights.  There are lights everywhere, on every corner, in every flower bed.  I think one of them still work.  Everytime I dig somewhere I run into a cord that's been partially buried, again, in the flower beds.  There are even lights going out to the corners of the property.  One light has been partially consumed by a tree, long before I ever owned the place.  It's an impressive testament to paranoia, I will say that.  The odd thing is there used to be a cornfield next door where there's now a park.  So I guess it was a lot more isolated back then?  Who knows.

So one day I'll landscape it properly.  I'll take the wood up, put in a nice swing, plant some flowers.  One day.  Unfortunately I can never figure out what I should put down instead of the wood edging, I don't care for any of the freestanding swings, and I have no idea what sort of plant would look good here.  I did buy a holly bush one year.  Neglected to plant it.  Not as hardy as you would think apparently!  I do have those two knock out roses though by the air conditioner.  They actually do all right somehow, even if I do forget I have them.

For a crawlspace update, I've ran a pump for about twelve, nonconsecutive hours.  It's as dry as it's going to get, which is to say, it's not very dry, but at least I can get in there without donning my scuba gear.  I hope my sump pump comes soon, because it's supposed to rain most of this week.  From what I've been reading on the internet, it's important to call a professional crawl space company to come out and evaluate it.  I'm not convinced.  I'm thinking a new pump and maybe a dehumidifier for the short term will solve this problem.  If not, then I'll just be breathing penicillin all day, and that can't possibly be bad for you!

What I believe.

So those who know me in real life know that I'm a strict follower of the Greek god Poseidon.  I know the hipsters call him Neptune, and that's fine for them, but I'm old school.  I've held this strong belief for as long as I can remember.  Or maybe it was since I saw the movie Ben.  I'm not sure if it was the rats (it was the rats) or Michael Jackson (it was the rats) or just the fact it was a horror movie and I was little (it really was the rats), but I've had a strong dislike of rats ever since.  And rats can't swim.  Hence the Greek god of the sea!  It makes perfect sense.

Sea flesh and blood!  Probably.

Sea flesh and blood!  Probably.

This year I decided to take things a step further.  I saw a mouse in my garage before winter, and everyone knows that mice turn into rats once they eat after midnight, so I took action.  I made a big elaborate sacrifice to Poseidon, praying to him that he would smite all those rats that would dare infringe upon my earthly domain.

So that's done, and my house is safe from rats for another year.  Now it's time to mow the lawn!  Hey, what's this in the crawlspace?  That's odd.

Success!  Thanks Poseidon!  Hrm.  Wait a minute...

I'm official!

Well, I just upgraded my trial membership to a real membership.  So this is some sort of real blog now.  My goal is to figure out a regular update schedule, because that's apparently the key to any good internet thing.  If people don't know when to look to your site for something new, they'll eventually forget about it and stop coming.  That's my piece of advice for today.  And you're welcome.

I added a page about my house and a section about my garage.  I haven't quite gotten the navigation figured out the way I'd like, but if you follow the links, you'll get to where you want.  Or at least get to where you think you want.  Good luck!
